Greek festival in Grand Blanc Township

The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church’s Greek Festival in Grand Blanc Township was not just about good food. Many people went to see the wonderful dancers.

Some local teens were dancers at the festival. Alexis Kontorousis, 13, and Johnathen Kontorousis, 15, of Fenton, said the most popular dance was the “Kalantchino.”

The teens said it is a basic Greek dance, which is usually done at festivals and weddings. They also said that different parts of Greece, and the islands surrounding it, have their own versions of the dance. The costumes also change with the region.
Alexis and Johnathen have been dancing for five years. “

“It’s fun,” said Johnathen.

“It’s our background.”

What the teens enjoy most about dancing is everyone is excited.

Johnathen said he enjoys feeling the energy from the audience.

The festival, which went on June 25-27, provided all sorts of activities, including face painting, pony rides, euro bungee jumping, and dancing.
