Is Chris Chelios Retiring?

Hockey has been a huge part of his life, but it seems that Chris Chelios is trying to find a way out while he still remains somehow involved with the sport. The new goal for former Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios is spending time with his kids as he revealed in an interview with George Sipple of freepress.com.

Chelios mentioned having more free time and being more involved with his business but he never used the word retire.

“I want to be home,” Chelios said. “That’s the most important thing.”

Chris Chelios said his youngest son, Jake, has made an oral commitment to play hockey at Michigan State, where he’ll be reunited with older brother Dean.

Caley Chelios will be a senior next season at Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood, where she plays hockey and lacrosse.

Chelios still plans to be involved in Hockey in some capacity.

“Hockey’s been in my life so long, I can’t see myself not being in hockey the rest of my life,” he said. “I think there’s a position somewhere for me in hockey. If this is the end, I’ve prepared myself for it.”

Chelios spent most of last season playing for the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League before returning to the NHL to play seven games for the Atlanta Thrashers.

The Greek-Amererican Hockey player, also played for the Red Wings in 1999-2009 and has also played for the Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Blackhawks.
