Chicago Goes More Greek (than usual)

Forty under Forty recognizes achievements of 40 young Greek Americans

Chicago’s Greek community is famous for their dedication to their Greek heritage. This week there are many factors and events that make Chicago even more Greek than what it normally is. Last Thursday, Greek owned Earth Friendly Products opened the largest green commercial facility in Illinois. The following day the Blackhawks hockey team won the Stanley Cup with Greek-American Adam Burish being one of the champs. On Friday,Greek America’s three day weekend kicked off with a welcoming reception, and an early Saturday morning gathering to watch the Greek National Soccer team against South Korea. Later Saturday morning the National Innovative Conference is taking place at the Resolution Digital Studios to be followed by the long awaited 40 under 40 Awards Gala.

NIC 2010

The National Innovation Conference was founded and created by the Greek America Foundation. It is an organization dedicated to the promotion, perpetuation and preservation of Greek culture with the thoughts and ideals of modern American society, while simultaneously making these concepts relevant in a contemporary setting.

NIC will gather global leaders, thinkers, and doers who share Greek heritage and make innovation an important part of what they do in their daily lives, at work and in their philanthropic and community endeavors.

Presenters will discuss various topics that are relevant to global conversations going on today throughout the world– philanthropy, technology, social issues, health and medical innovations, education and more. The presentations will be dynamic and interesting and many will incorporate the use of multimedia.

Forty under Forty

Another project by Greek America foundation, called “40 Under 40,” recognizes the achievements and successes of 40 of Greek America’s young leaders. The honorees were announced this week.

The winners represent multiple industries and disciplines, from business, politics, the arts, to philanthropy and more. These inspiring young leaders will be featured in a special upcoming edition of Greek America magazine. The foundation will celebrate the winners at an upcoming cocktail party and awards reception in Chicago this June 12. The event will also feature a performance by the duo HelenaMaria, featuring twin sisters Helena and Maria Mehalis, New Jersey natives who are quickly rising in popularity.
