In a packed venue in watergrill bar in Bay Ridge, NY a new band named Republic Of Apes had their first gig this week. There are 6 members in the band, two of them Greek Americans S.C. Xenakis (vocals) Anastasio Theodorakopoulos (bass). Other band members are Andrew Doyle, Lex Doyle in flute, Michael Bordino in lead guitar , Dennis Sedita in drums. Their sound brings something new to the music scene, expecially when an mc raps over the guitars. In that moment, their music sounds like Linkin Park,until the flute kicks in and take you by surprise, let you wondering how could you characterize their sound; definitely different.
“We’re approaching it different than them.” says Xenakis “This thing is about making something new rather than trying to scream rap verses over guitars” The ROA is “an experimental band,” who isn’t “limited to producing shit that necessarily fits into any one genre.
ROA are recording their first album and planning out their next musical gigs throughout NYC.
