Tarpon Springs: Learn Greek bouzouki at workshop

Georgos Soffos (foto) is widely considered the best bouzouki player born outside of Greece.
His repertoire includes folk genres such as rembetika, nisiotika and other regional styles, as well as popular and classical Greek works.
Since he was 17, Soffos has entertained audiences in Greek night clubs and large venues throughout the world. When top vocalists from Greece tour North America, Soffos often accompanies them.
Soffos will give workshops on Sundays, April 11 and 18, from 2-4 p.m. at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center, 101 S. Pinellas Ave., and April 25 and May 2, 2-4 p.m., at the Heritage Museum, 100 Beekman Lane. There will be several bouzoukis available for students who do not have one. Please call 727-942-5605 to reserve a place in the workshop and a bouzouki if needed.
The workshops are supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
