Born and raised in Cyprus, Vassiliadis immigrated to the United States in 1982 to further her education, earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a master’s degree in applied mathematics from NJIT, and a master’s in educational technology from Ramapo College.
At Middlesex, she teaches all levels of mathematics courses, and she is the department’s curriculum coordinator and a student advisor.
“She is a very creative, organized and involved person, whether it is at Middlesex County College, her children’s schools or the community at large,” said Maria De Lucia, chairperson of the college’s mathematics department. “She is always working for the betterment of students. She is an excellent teacher – a real asset to the department. She works hard to bring innovation into our all of our programs.”
As a member of the Cyprus Federation of America, Vassiliadis is very involved in promoting Cyprus and its culture. She is a founding member of the New Jersey Cypriot Association, and a board member of a Pancyprian dancing group. She has served as vice president of the Cyprus Federation of America, an umbrella organization representing Greek Cypriots throughout the United States. She is currently a member of its auditing committee.
Each year, Vassiliadis works with the television program “H Kypros Mas” in promoting cultural events. She was also master of ceremonies several years ago when the president of Cyprus attended a banquet at New York University.
The award was presented by the Pancyprian Association’s Women’s Issues Network in March at the Terrace on the Park in New York.
