The new year was celebrated at a Sunday open house hosted by Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis (Photo left with her Dad), newly confirmed U.S. ambassador to Hungary, and her husband, Washington Monthly President and Publisher Markos Kounalakis. The party was crammed with well-wishers, many of whom had driven down from Sacramento, where the new ambassador grew up and where she also became president of AKT Development, a company founded by her proud father, Angelo Tsakopoulos.
This Greek January fare took place at the new diplomat’s ninth-floor apartment in San Francisco. Some conversations were general expressions of goodwill; others were specific. Guests sipping Champagne were sweeping views of the bay outside.
Madame Ambassador will prepare for her new job with orientation in Washington; her husband and sons were leaving for Budapest.
