Chief NASA scientist Dr. Athanasios Oikonomou to receive award

Greek astrophysicist, professor at the University of Chicago and NASA official, Dr. Athanasios Oikonomou will be the recipient of the year’s “Niki Award” from the research and educational institute “Athens Information Technology’ AIT.
The spcial award ceremony will take place on Monday December 14th 2009 at the Grande Bretagne Hotel in Athens. Proceeds of the event will be allocated for the Athens Information Technology Scholarship, Awards and Financial Aid Fund. The award will be given to Dr. Oikonomou by the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, Ieronymos. Key note speaker at the event will be Dr. Jared L. Cohon, President of Carnegie Mellon University.
