Yes to expatriate Greek pensions from Greece

Expatriate Greek pensioners (IKA-ETAM) will be eligible to receive the sum of 500 or 300 euros, a one-off emergency allowance decided by the Greek Employment ministry in May 2009. However, they must notify the service about the total sum of their pension. If the amount does not exceed 800 euros, they will receive the sum of 500 euros, and if their pension is between 800-1,100 euros, they are entitled to receive a special allowance of 300 euros.
The issue was raised by Greek News in an article published on July 13, 2009, under the title: “What allowance? The Greek government strings along expatriate Greek pensioners”. The article was based on charges by 90-year-old pensioner Vassilis Tzimos from Brooklyn, who said he was told by IKA that permanent residents abroad are not entitled to the allowance.
